As President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, I want to drive our organization to wake up every day focused on quality of life initiatives that
help generate community vibrancy and energy. Having the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in our community plays an instrumental part of creating those exciting quality of life ventures that help our community be considered a “cool” place to live. The Twist and Shout event is exactly the type of energetic, and vibrant program that gets our community out, active, and sharing in an amazing night. Everyone in attendance was singing and dancing to the 60’s and the Beatles, and it was “the place to be” in our community. What an asset the RSO is to our region.

What can I say but bravo to the RSO!  We had an awesome evening at your Twist and Shout event Saturday!  The cool invitations and marketing I saw leading up to the event only intrigued me more.  Once we arrived we were immediately met with a fun atmosphere, bright colors, 60’s attire and awesome music from the symphony and the Beatles.  Well done RSO………thanks for a “groovy” time!!

—Craig Morris

What a fantastic fun event!  RSO’s Twist and Shout was another fantastic fundraiser that supported a great cause, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra.  The vibrant colors, the fun atmosphere, and the groovy music, was the perfect combination for a fun-filled evening with friends and community partners.  I was so happy to be a part of such an great event.  Thank you RSO!

The Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s recent Twist and Shout event reminded me of how my mother used to de-stress after a long day of caring for four children on the family farm. Sometimes, before or after dinner, she would disappear to the living room and play her old vinyl records on the console stereo system. Sometimes she allowed us to “Twist and Shout” with her, and it’s those fond memories I cherish most. Between The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and even some Johnny Cash, we learned to appreciate the aesthetic of music and its power to momentarily free us from the burdens of the day. Now, I have the RSO to take me there during their concert seasons and special events.

The moment we stepped through the doors of the Kuhlman Center for Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s gala, Twist and Shout, we knew it was going to be “a happening” event. From the silver miniskirted Go-go dancers dancing under psychedelic lights, to Carvin Rinehart’s Peter Max inspired art, the crazy daisy 60’s inspired table settings, right down to the rainbow frosted cupcakes, Ginger Gray and the RSO gala crew created an evening that felt more like performance art than boring old fundraiser. Top it all off with the RSO playing along with the outstanding and groovy Beatles’ tribute band, Liverpool Legends, that had everyone dancing in the aisles, and I’d say it was coolest fundraiser we’ve ever been to.

Even though Carl and I moved to Indianapolis when he retired two years ago, we always make it back to Richmond for the RSO signature event.  That’s because – year after year – it’s always so much fun!  “Twist and Shout” this year was no exception.  The Beatles band rocked (and rolled!), the food was fabulous, and I got a kick out of approaching old friends who didn’t quite recognize me in my long hippie hair and John Lennon glasses.  Confession:  There were a few people I didn’t recognize immediately either!

—Connie Wooldridge

It’s a great experience to be involved in the production of an amazing event like “Twist and Shout”. It’s neat to work behind the scenes and see the event come together. The best part was seeing everyone sing and dance along with the Liverpool Legends. I look forward to working on next years event!

This year was my first time to attend the RSO signature event, and I couldn’t have been more awed. Everything was executed in top-notch fashion, from the invitations and marketing materials to the amazing event decor, the food, great music and the interactive stations where people of any age could get involved –  there was something for everyone.  I especially enjoyed seeing how people represented themselves with 60’s fashion.  When I looked around the room people were dancing, waving their arms, hugging and there was lots of smiling. What’s not to love, a fun evening out for a great cause! (Wait, was that really a fund raiser?)

—Susanna Tanner

Once again RSO has outdone itself with a fabulous event!  Twist and Shout was a blast…bringing together folks from all corners of our community for a memorable evening.  I did wonder…do you think the under 40 crowd know who Ed Sullivan was?  Already getting a fever thinking about next year.  Thank you Richmond Symphony Orchestra.  We are so fortunate to have you in Richmond.

—Susie Ferrell

This year the RSO took on the style of the 1960’s for their fundraising event. For the past several years, loyal supporters have waited for the next “themed” evening, enthusiastically put tables of friends together, planned the appropriate apparel and anticipated the first party of spring! The RSO Singers have always been invited to set the mood for the evening with varied & energetic repertoire and have collectively enjoyed choosing and interpreting the music together and being part of the excitement of this annual event. The RSO is a valued community treasure and we are thrilled share in the success of this organization. Keep your ears open for our next fun theme…and onward toward the Signature Event:  April, 2018!

The RSO Twist and Shout event is definitely one for the books. It was fabulous! This is the first one I have attended and I cannot wait until 2018 to see what “fever” will bring.

— Linda Sherrow

Twist and Shout was awesome! It was very colorful, I loved the decorations, and the people were so kind and fun! The costumes were fun, too. Congratulations to my gigi, Ginger, for winning her award!

West End Bank was honored to be a sponsor of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s signature event “Twist and Shout!”  To support an organization that does so much for the community and to be a part of one of the best social events of the year…priceless!  Thank you for all that you do RSO and thank you for a one groovy evening!

— Robin D. Henry

We had a wonderful time at RSO’s Twist and Shout event. It’s been years since we’ve attended or donated but that will change! We had so much fun and saw many friends. Even the auction was fun and informative. RSO does so much for our community and youth. Thank you for creating an amazing evening and doing great things in Richmond and Wayne County.

— Patti Peterson

The RSO annual event has become a ‘can’t miss’ occasion and this year’s “Twist and Shout” was no exception. The music, the décor, all the extras – it’s just a great event. The symphony is very important to our community and the IU East campus enjoys being a sponsor.  We can’t wait for the 70’s!!!
